COURSE DETAILS

SCOPE

This course provides instruction and assessment for Medical Care Provider. A mariner who successfully completes the course will satisfy the following:

  1. STCW Code Table A-VI/4-1
  2. The competency requirements of 46 CFR 12.619(a)(2)
  3. The Medical Care Provider training requirements of:
    • 46 CFR 11.309(a)(4)(i)
    • 46 CFR 11.317(a)(3)(i)
    • 46 CFR 11.319(a)(4)(i)
    • 46 CFR 11.329(a)(4)(i)
    • 46 CFR 11.335(a)(3)(i)
    • 46 CFR 12.619(a)(1)

Upon successful completion of this course, the mariner will have received sufficient information, instruction, and assessment to perform the duties and responsibilities for meeting the standard of competence for Medical Care Provider in accordance with Section A-VI/4 of the STCW Code. The student will be proficient in the following topics:

  • Immediate Action
  • First Aid Kits
  • Body Structure and Function
  • Toxicological Hazards Aboard Ship
  • Examination of a Patient
  • Spinal Injuries
  • Burns, Scalds, and Effects of Heat and Cold
  • Fractures, Dislocations, and Muscular Injuries
  • Medical Care of Rescued Persons, Including Distress, Hypothermia, and Cold Exposure
  • Radio Medical Advice
  • Pharmacology
  • Cardiac Arrest, Drowning, and Asphyxia
PREREQUISITES

This course is open to mariners who provide acceptable similar standard to completing Elementary First Aid to be enrolled in the course

Any applicant who has successfully completed your Medical Care Provider (RCMMAR-310) course will satisfy:

The Medical First-Aid Provider training and standards of competence required by 46 CFR 12.619 for an STCW endorsement as Medical First-Aid Provider; STCW Code Section A-VI/4 and Table A-VI/4-1, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 05-04; AND

The Medical First-Aid Provider training requirements of 46 CFR 11.309(a)(4)(i), 11.317(a)(3)(i), 11.319(a)(4)(i), 11.321(a)(3)(i), 11.329(a)(4)(i), and 11.335(a)(3)(i); AND

The Medical First-Aid standards of competence required by 46 CFR 11.309(a)(3) and 11.319(a)(3); STCW Code A-II/1 and Table A-II/1, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVICs 12-14(Ch-7) and 02-18(Ch-5) Task 16.1; AND

The Medical First-Aid standards of competence required by 46 CFR 11.317(a)(2) and 11.321(a)(2); STCW Code A-II/3 and Table A-II/3, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 13-14(Ch-5) Task 11.1.A; AND

The Medical First-Aid standards of competence required by 46 CFR 11.329(a)(3); STCW Code A-III/1 and Table A-III/1, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 17-14(Ch-7) Task 14.1; AND

The Medical First-Aid standards of competence required by 46 CFR 11.335(a)(2); STCW Code A-III/6 and Table A-III/6, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 23-14(Ch-4) Task 16.1.A.
