COURSE DETAILS
SCOPE
The course combines live, instructor-led virtual lectures with in-person practical training. Lectures are delivered via Zoom during the first two days of the course, followed by hands-on practical exercises and course examinations conducted in person on the final day.
This model course aims to provide the training for candidates to launch and take charge of a fast rescue boat, in accordance with Section A-VI/2 of the STCW Code.
A mariner who successfully completes this course will satisfy:
- The training requirements of 46 CFR 12.617(a)(3) and STCW Code Section A-VI/2
- The competency demonstration requirements of 46 CFR 12.617(a)(4) and STCW Code Table A-VI/2-2
For an STCW endorsement for Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats.
The goal and learning objectives are to ensure the student, upon successful completion of the course, will be able to:
- Operate, launch, and take charge of a fast rescue boat
- Handle and take charge of such boats during or after launch in adverse weather and sea conditions
- Operate a fast rescue boat engine
This syllabus covers the requirements of the 1995 STCW Convention Chapter VI, Section A-VI/2, Table A-VI/2-2.
Trainees will also learn:
- The correct use of all locating devices
- How to use communication and signaling equipment between the rescue boat, a helicopter, and the ship
- How to carry out search patterns
PREREQUISITES
For admission to the course seafarers must be medically fit and the holder of a certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats in accordance with Regulation V1/2, paragraph 1 of STCW 1995.
CERTIFICATES
Any applicant who has successfully completed this Fast Rescue Boat (RCMMAR-193) course will satisfy:
⦁ The Fast Rescue Boat training requirements of 46 CFR 12.617(a)(3); AND
⦁ The Fast Rescue Boat standards of competence required by 46 CFR 12.617(a)(4); STCW Code Section A-VI/2 and Table A-VI/2-2, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 05-14(Ch-1) all Tasks.
